Kohala Mountain Lookout to Keokea Beach Park
Ride the Kohala Mountain Road from the scenic
lookout to Kapa`au (3,000 ft of descent). Learn about
the legacy of King Kamehameha and then ride the
rolling road that finishes with a fun down hill to the
rugged Keokea Bay. If time permits, we will drive out to the beautiful
Pololu Valley Lookout.

unsuitable for the little kids in the

Waimea to Mahukona Beach Park
Climb the Kohala Mountain Road from Waimea (1,150
ft in 6 miles), then drop 2,750 ft to Kapa'au to visit the original
statue of King Kamehameha.
Then, we ride through lush tropical vegetaion on the rolling road
to the Pololu Valley Lookout.
Relax over lunch in Kapa'au before riding through Hawi and dropping
to the Upolu Airport, where we switch to mountain bikes, so that
we can visit the Mo`okini Heiau (site of human sacrifice). A fast
sprint to Mahukona State Park on part of the Ironman Triathalon
route ends the trip. Sometimes, Mahukona Bay just begs to be jumped
into! |

We will drive through Waimea to the Waipio Valley Lookout. Then,
we ride the lush Hamakua Coast, crossing an amazing 50 bridges!
Discover the many sections of the old road, with increasingly
beautiful streams and waterfalls, and an optional 1,000 climb
to Akaka and Kahuna Falls. We finish the tour with an ultra scenic
ride on the Onomea Bay Scenic route then on to Banyon Dr in Hilo.
The return drive will be over the rugged Saddle Road between Maunakea
and Maunaloa. |

Ride the scenic old Mamalahoa Highway from the Waimea pasture
land to the rain forests of Honoka'a.
Stops include many photo opportunities and a chance to visit ancient
Hawaiian cave dwellings. The trip continues through the quaint
(ambiance reminiscent of the old west) town of Honoka'a and ends
up at the breathtaking overlook of Waipio Valley. |

Captain Cook to Honaunau
Start the tour with a visit to the Greenwell Coffee Farm.
Ride MOSTLY downhill past an unending variety of
flowers and through coffee and papaya groves full of
wonderful aromas. Visit the historic Painted Church and
then continue down to Kealakekua Bay, and learn about the Captain
Cook legacy. From Kealakekua Bay, it's along the coast road to
Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (The Place of Refuge). End the trip with
a picnic lunch in the park while you watch the waves. |

Captain Cook to Honaunau
This ride is as downhill as we get here on the Big Island! This
is similar to the "Coffee Country Tour" above, but travels
an easier, more direct route. You still see an amazing variety
of flowers and many coffee and papaya groves. Visit the historic
Painted Church and then have fun with a fast downhill, riding
a wide highway shoulder to Honaunau Bay. Finish the trip with
a walk through the serene Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (The Place of Refuge). |
