The Wailua River offers the only
fresh water skiing in the state.
This unique river, with a width of approximately a quarter mile
near its mouth, has some of the most spectacular settings in
the
world for power boat sports. Always glassy, warm water and
perfect conditions (except in times of flooding), the river
draws
pros from around the world to rip up the river's glassy face
on skis,
wakeboards, scurfers and kneeboards.
The pros come here to train because of the perfect conditions
and the selection of new tournament ski boats that pull them.
Also, world champion ski board events are held at various times
of the year on the river.
Beginners and intermediates can have good fun here with
moderately priced tows, starting at $30 a ride. Passengers who
choose not to ski, ride free. The ski boat companies supply
all the
equipment, as well as just about any water apparatus you can
think of. Tried an air chair lately? Instruction as well as
professional high speed navigation is part of the deal.
