For those who want to explore and learn about the beautiful and secluded island of Lana`i, and would rather be driven than drive, Expeditions offers our exclusive 4x4 Trekker guided tours. Your day starts when you board Expeditions fast passenger ferry to Lana`i from the main loading pier at Lahaina Harbor. Recommended departure time is on our first ferry of the day at 6:45 am. During your 45 minute voyage across the Auau channel you will enjoy open ocean viewing of all the islands of Maui County, including Maui, Moloka`i, Kahoolawe, Molokini and, of course, Lana`i. You'll be met upon arrival at Manele Harbor by one of our guides from "Lana`i EcoAdventure Center" and be oriented to the lowland area on the way to their shop in the central town of the island. After picking up any gear you need at the shop, your adventure begins! Our experienced naturalists know the terrain, the flora and fauna, the stories and legends - and share them with you over the course of this 4 hour tour. All tour vehicles are designed for your ultimate safety and comfort, and the tour can be as relaxing or active as you like. Generally you'll travel in a roomy, air conditioned, 4 wheel drive Suburban, although Jeep tours can be arranged upon special request. You will experience a unique ironwood forest, where the wind is the only voice you'll hear, on your way to the "Garden of the Gods" - a stunning, natural red rock formation in the crater that often inspires visions of a visit to mars. Other highlights include: "Shipwreck Beach", where the breathtaking views of Moloka`i are interrupted only by the ship, towering just offshore, which brought this beach it's name; the Munro Trails traversing the top of the crater with spectacular views of the islands of Maui and Moloka`i; and the ancient petroglyphs at Po`aiwa Gulch. Throughout the tour, your guide will educate and entertain you with facts and stories - and special requests for photo stops, diversions to other locations and specific information are welcome! Kayak, Snorkel, Downhill Bike and Hiking Treks are also available upon request. All tours include: round trip water transportation aboard Expeditions; minimum 4 hour tour; all required gear and equipment; light snacks and refreshments; and all taxes.
